EUChinaGRID 1st Conference: Interconnecting European and Chinese Grids for eScience
(22/09/2006)
  • The first EUChinaGRID Project Conference was held the last 18th of Spetembre: another step towards the creation of a human network in e-Science between Europe and China, thus promoting the existing and creating new international collaborations around this emerging technology.

  •

The first EUChinaGRID Project Conference was held the 18th of September, 2006. The event presented the vision of cross-national eInfrastructures as a driving force towards widening the European Research Area and creating a global, virtual space for Research through the adoption of new powerful grid tools and services; it also provided a picture of the current status of Grid infrastructures and applications in Europe and China, with a special stress on the e-Science applications.

The scientific field is of course a preferential ground to create a true collaborative environment, ultimately promoting scientific and technological development: the EUChinaGRID conference discussed how grids can become a major instrument for international cooperation in eScience and beyond, also thanks to the presentation of real, operating application, case histories and similar experiences in China and the rest of the continent. For details, please visit the conference website and agenda.

Funded by European Union within the framework of the Sixth Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP6), EUChinaGRID Project officially started on 1st January 2006 with the aim to interconnect the existing European and Chinese Grid Infrastructures and enable their interoperability, thus creating a network of collaboration between Europe and China.

The main objective of the Project is to facilitate exchange and processing of scientific data supporting a pilot interoperable usage of the most relevant Grid Infrastructures in Europe (developed within the EU EGEE Project) and in China (managed by the CNGrid Project).

The EUChinaGRID Project is coordinated by INFN and involves several partners from China (Beihang University, CNIC, IHEP, and Peking University), Greece (GRnet), Italy (Consortium GARR, Department of Biology - Università di Roma Tre), Poland (Jagiellonian University) and international organization (CERN), while the Department of Physics - Università di Roma Tre and Academia Sinica Grid Computing Centre (ASGC) of Taipei are third parties.

The Conference is organized also with the contribution of the General Directorate for the Culture Promotion and Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
